DESIGNER CREATES UNIQUE CONTEMPORARY CARPETS THE CONVERGENCE OF HAUTE STYLE AND HIGH TECHNOLOGY
Northern California Coast - Working from a contemporary studio and gallery with an inspirational view of the Pacific Ocean, Hansine Pedersen Goran is a rarity in the business of carpet design. One of only a small handful of people in the United States creating custom hand-tufted contemporary carpets, Goran's pieces blend the traditional values of old-world craftsmanship with the crisp clean lines of modern design.
"When I speak with clients, I am sensitive to the nuances they seek. People who want unique custom design in their carpets consider their home a great source of expression, inspiration, and energy," said Goran. Award-winning modern architect Carson Bowler and Goran designed her Sea Ranch home to highlight her carpets in rooms with ample natural light, solid maple floors, sweeping views of the Pacific and stunning contemporary furniture.
Goran's carpets are hand-tufted to her specifications by her third-generation hand tufting atelier. She is the only contemporary carpet designer to use licensed Wools of New Zealand, the highest quality of wool labeled as "Fernmark." This lanolin-rich wool is considered "the wool standard of excellence" and comes from a healthy ecological system in which workers earn a living wage shearing free-range sheep. For every six wool rugs sold, Goran donates one wool-producing sheep through Heifer International, a non-profit that helps impoverished families around the world earn income for food and basic necessities.
While most designers limit clients to a predetermined set of options, Goran's carpets are available in 84 colors, 252 shades, and five pile types. In addition, she designs non-traditional shapes and sizes that are ideal for contemporary architectural spaces. Though her carpets tend to appeal to those who like modern design, she has produced many transitional pieces that spice up Victorian, Biedermier, Deco, and other room settings. Goran's carpets are shipped worldwide in six to eight weeks, compared to the 16-20 weeks required for most other hand-tufted carpets that are typically made outside the United States.
Goran received the prestigious Award for Design Excellence in 2003/2004 and has been nominated for the 2004/2005 Award for Design Excellence. Her carpets and interior designs have been featured in numerous magazine and newspaper articles around the country.
Goran's workspace with its high-speed Internet routers, powerful computers, and graphics software is a peek into the future. With technology, she designs intricate carpets, communicates with her atelier that produces them, and sells directly to clients around the world.
The majority of her clients come through her state-of-the-art web site at www.currentcarpets.com, and she credits her success to providing them with the necessary design services and handholding to select a $2,500 to $6,000 carpet. As an ASID Industry Partner, Goran also works with interior designers and architects around the world. She has a permanent showroom at her gallery in Gualala adjoining The Sea Ranch. "Carpets need the right colors, textures and design balances to make people comfortable and to integrate all the components of a room. These things are unique to each client and environment. I personally go through a detailed process with clients to ensure that they're completely satisfied with the final result." said Goran.
